 Transplanted into exotic soil
This anxious english violet
Drenched in showers of rich pungent smells
Bright green leaves dripping with heavy blossom.

Loquacious frogs telling tales to the moon
Of the restless rootless sleeper
Shifting this way and that
Searching for a peaceful fit, not a fitful peace,
Cotton sheets wrapped around her legs
Hot pillow ‘neath her spinning head
Breath dischordant, out of sync
Yet still enchanted by the Asian night.
